Zen Master Dogen wrote books "Instructions for Temple Cook" and "Instructions on Taking Food" to provide detailed instructions on cooking and eating of food in a zen monastery. In these books, he talked about "Jo-myo-jiki" is food that Buddhist practitioners should eat. Jo-myo-jiki is food that purify your life. Of course it isn't necessarily to be Japanese rice porridge or strict vegetarian food. In the class, Ms. Taeko Tanaka teaches cooking of delicious and healthy Japanese food that fits to a modern life style without using chemical seasoning. Please contact Zuigakuin or its Tokyo Office. Fee for only attending the class for lunch is 2000 Yen. You can also stay overnight for Zazen practice if you wish.
