In Commemoration of Master Moriyama / Conmemoración del Maestro Moriyama

By now, you may know that Master Moriyama, founder of Zuigakuin and La Demeure sans Limites (and the dojo thereof),  has not made any contact since the catastrophe of 11 March has touched Japan. Our only information is that he could have been – or was- in the region that was affected by the Tsunami.   

If we continue to receive no news,  I propose that Saturday the 21^st of May, a few days after Vesak, should be set aside as a day of commemoration.

I am writing this to one and all who knew him and practiced with him or knew  of him through his disciples or students, to all who went to Zuigakuin, La Demeure sans Limites,  Porto Alegre, Monte Video and also to those he has inspired by his actions and teachings, and for all who were touched by him...

I propose that gratitude be the central point of this day; that we each take a time of our choosing- a few minutes, an hour or several hours, alone or with other Dharma friends, at home or in a dojo- to examine the reasons that we have to feel gratitude throughout our lives:

-         For this human life so precious,

-         For all the times,for all the circumstance, big or small, that  have been given to us to grow, to study, to love,

-         For having  touched the Dharma, the Teachings without equal, of the Buddha, thanks to all who have studied during the past 25 centuries- those who have dedicated their lives to the practice, the study and transmission

-         and especially for Moriyama Roshi wherever he is now and whatever his situation.

We remember with gratitude how he freely transmitted the Dharma to us  joyfully and freely and that through the enormous effort he made,  we have Zuigakuin, La Demeure sans Limites and the dojos in South America, all of which he founded in order to give us the opportunity to practice the pure life as defined by M° Dogen.

 And how, with patience, compassion and a huge sense of humour, he has always given his time and energy to help his disciples and students to advance with him in the Way of the Buddha.

All the rakusus ordained by him know that they entered into his lineage and that their  Dharma name is written close to his.

Over the course of his last few hours, the Buddha replied to his disciples who were saddened by the knowledge that soon they would see him no more, “When you see the Dharma you see the Buddha”.  We must not forget this phrase.

We end this day with joy, for joy will transmute our sadness and suffering by opening our hearts; joy that we encounter with the Master and with all our spiritual companions that now walk, have walked and will walk with us in the Way.

In conclusion of the day, we can make the vow that we will use all the opportunities that are offered to each of us, all the possibilities that appear in our life,  for the best possible aide to all living beings, whether, as M°Dogen had said, on the material or spiritual plane,  with a generous, joyous and loving heart.

Thus we will commemorate the teachings that Master Moriyama transmitted us.

Conmemoración del Maestro Moriyama

Ustedes seguramente saben que el Maestro Moriyama, fundador de Zuigakuin, de la Demeure sans Limites ( y del Dojo de ...) no ha dado señales de su paradero desde la catástrofe que azotó al Japón, el 11 de marzo pasado. Solamente sabemos que probablemente estuviera en la región más afectada por el tsunami.

Si no tenemos noticias suyas de aquí en más, propongo que el sábado 23 de abril sea una jornada de conmemoración.
 

Esto está dirigido a todos, aquellos y aquellas que lo conocieron, practicaron con él, o bien conocieron discípulos y estudiantes suyos; todos aquellos que fueron a Zuigakuin, a la Demeure sans Limites, a Porto Alegre, Montevideo, o Buenos Aires, pero también a aquellos a quienes inspiró, a los cuales su acción, sus enseñanzas los alcanzaron y los retuvieron por un momento…

Propongo  que la gratitud sea el punto central de esta jornada; que nos tomemos un tiempo – según las posibilidades de cada uno, algunos minutos, una o más horas, solos o con otros amigos del Dharma, en casa o en un dojo- para revisar todas las razones que tenemos para sentir gratitud en cada instante de nuestra vida.

-         por esta preciosa vida humana,

-         por todas las ocasiones, pequeñas o grandes, que nos fueron dadas para crecer, estudiar, amar,

-         por haber tocado el Dharma, las Enseñanzas sin igual del Buda, gracias a todos aquellos y aquellas que, desde hace 25 siglos, dedicaron sus vidas a practicar, estudiar, trasmitir,

-         y muy especialmente para Moriyama Roshi, allí donde se encuentre, sea cual sea su situación :

recordamos con gratitud que nos trasmitió el Dharma en la alegría, y en plena libertad;

que, gracias a grandes esfuerzos, fundó  Zuigakuin, luego la Demeure sans Limites y los dojos de América del Sur  para permitirnos practicar en ellos la vida pura definida por el Maestro Dogen;

y que siempre, con paciencia, con compasión y un gran sentido del humor, dio su tiempo y su energía para ayudar a sus discípulos y a sus estudiantes a marchar con él en la Vía de Buda.

Todos los rakusus ordenados por él saben que entraron en su linaje, y que sus nombres de Dharma están escritos  junto al suyo. 

Durante sus últimas horas, el Buda respondió a sus discípulos entristecidos porque no volverían a verlo : «  Quien ve el Dharma ve al Buda ».

No debemos olvidar esta frase.

Terminaremos esta jornada en la alegría, ya que ella borra nuestros sentimientos de malestar y de sufrimiento, y abre nuestro corazón: la alegría del encuentro con el Maestro y con todos los amigos espirituales que caminan, han caminado y caminarán junto a nosotros por el Camino.

Para concluir, podemos hacer el voto que todas esas oportunidades que nos fueron ofrecidas, todas esas ocasiones que se nos presentaron, las utilizaremos de la mejor manera posible para ayudar a todos los seres vivientes, como dice el Maestro Dogen, tanto en el plano material o espiritual, con un corazón generoso, alegre y amoroso. 

Así conmemoraremos las enseñanzas que el Maestro Moriyama nos ha trasmitido.
